THREAT

The bullets calibers are changing from the 5.56 to the 7.62 and now the balistic resistance will reach the 12.7 caliber.
In addition, the bullet core is stronger and stronger, from the ordinary (lead material) to the piercing (hard metal, wolfram …)
In other words, we are facing an evolution to more agressive ammunitions and we have to develop more performant transparencies.

PARAMETERS

The windscreen

  • Size : 300 x 300 mm (12''x12'') for 1 centered shot, 500 x 500 mm (20''x20'') for 3 shots in triangle are the minimum sizes to be used to certify a larger panel.
  • Incidence of the shot : depending on the angle or perpendicularly, glass will not show the same results.
  • Number and location of the shots
  • Temperature of the target
  • The interface in between the window and the car body

The Threat

  • The kinetic energy reached by the bullet core
  • The material used for the core (lead, steel, wolfram)
  • The fragments of the projectile
  • The blast pressure

FUNCTIONS

Offering a complete protection means that within the glass assembly, several devices can be combined :

  • Optic
    - High light transmission
    - Optical quality
    - Anti-laser rays, 1 or several wave lengthes protection
    - Night vision, IR rays compatibility
    - EMI protection, anti-radar rays, IR signature
  • Mecanical
    - Balistic protection, with and without spalls, 1 or several impacts
    - Resistance to the chocks, vibrations, explosions, blast pressure
    - High pressure cleaning
    - Gravels impact resistance
  • NBC
    - Compatibility with all the components used in the windows
    - Chemical resistance to the cleaning agents
  • Armouring kits
    - Possibility to design structures including opaque and transparent parts in order to upgrade the balistic resistance of a vehicle, in partnership with the specialists of the opaque armoured structures.
  • Cost of ownership
    - Reduce the time of replacement of the window, mostly in-situ
    - Increase the life time
