Heated windows

International standards covering marine safety are more and more exacting. The speed and the design of boats are constantly changing and require the appropriate glass, irrespective of climatic conditions.

In order to provide all weather visibility, Saint-Gobain Sully is capable of offering several solutions in terms of window demisting and defrosting.

Heating with conductive metallic layers (Electriplex®, Antex®, Indiex®)

Heating with wires (Airplex®).

Voltage: from 12 volts to 440 volts (Single phase or 3 phase)

Power density: from 3 W/dm2 to 55 W/dm2/p

Chemically reinforced lightweight glass

CHEMICAL REINFORCEMENT AN ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGE FOR MARINE WINDOWS.

By bringing together excellent optical qualities, resistance to impacts and weight savings, chemical reinforcement offers all the advantages required to satisfy the most stringent technical requirements for marine windows: pressure resistance, ballistic protection, electro-magnetic protection, acoustic, thermal and solar protection, and complex shapes.

A few references: Norwegian patrol boats (Kvaerner- Norwegian navy), Iris catamarans (France), 140 m Supply ships (Singapore navy), Macau tricat rapid ferries (Hong Kong), Warships (Dutch navy), Wauquiez (pleasure craft).

Curved windows

With its vast experience of numerous technologies, Saint-Gobain Sully is capable of designing and producing windows with more and more complex shapes, thus adapting to the demands of new designs in terms of pleasure craft, luxury yachts or any other marine application.

These windows can be clear, tinted or reflective. Several functions can be achieved : defrosting and/or demisting, solar protection, electro-magnetic protection, resistance to high pressure, thermal insulation …

Solar protection

In order to provide solar protection or for specific constraints (light transmission, confidentiality, aesthetics...) our laminated windows can be clear, tinted, reflective...

EMI protection

The electro-magnetic environment created by radars, HF and UHF transmitters, and possibly high energy electro-magnetic impulses, creates interferences for the on-board instrumentation.

Saint-Gobain Sully has developed a complete range of highly technical products, always seeking the highest efficiency associated with the highest level of transparency.

Acoustic attenuation

In order to provide the highest level of comfort to users, it is sometimes necessary to protect one or more areas of a boat with acoustic protection.
(e.g.: windows next to the flight deck (aircraft carriers), near cannons, etc.. )/p>

Saint-Gobain Sully is capable of offering you windows with extremely high sound attenuation characteristics whilst still retaining other functionalities (defrosting - EMI protection -armoured glass …).

Noise attenuation is measured in decibels.

Fire protection

Fireproof windows are not only recommended for oil tankers or oil rigs, but also for installation in all the sensitive areas of any ship (e.g.: in front of the lifeboats).

Their purpose is to stop fire spreading and they are classified in relation to the length of time and the level of protection provided.

Saint-Gobain Glass and Saint-Gobain Vetrotech have got several approvals in classes A and B.

Armoured glass

Over many years Saint-Gobain Sully has developed high performance transparent surfaces for military applications, in the aeronautical, marine and land transport fields.

Our Company has a proven capacity of innovating and adapting to new needs. Thus Saint-Gobain Sully is capable of offering its customers high technology windows in compliance with the most stringent specifications.

Our ballistics laboratory provides us with the capabilities for materials testing and for conducting approval firing tests on request.

Numerous parameters enter into play when defining bullet proof windows:

The materials themselves
The type of projectile
The window dimensions
The angle of incidence
The number of impacts…

Principal munitions used:

  • 9MM PARABELUM
  • 357 MAGNUM
  • 44 MAGNUM
  • BRENNER 9MM
  • 7.62 ORDINARY OU PIERCING
  • 5.56 ORDINARY OU PIERCING
  • 12.7
  • 14.5…

Privalite

Privalite laminated windows offer transparency or opacity on request.

Privalite can be used as:

An opaque or transparent partition as required
An opaque or reflective mirror as required
A video projection surface in opaque mode
Visual safety windows

Offered in various compositions of laminated windows.

Different colours available.

Low energy consumption (50 va/m˛)

No special maintenance required.

Good UV resistance

Framed, fixed or opening windows

Marine windows are often framed before being mounted on the vessel.

A peripheral protection is recommended in order to protect the edges against impacts and to avoid any humidity penetration or chemical attack.

The choice of the protection to be used is defined jointly with the window frame Manufacturer and/or the end customer.

Direct bonding to the structure

With the development of fast boats, the constructors are continuously seeking for solutions to save weight on the boats. Bonded windows enable the structures to be lightened as the frame is no longer required.

When mounting windows by direct bonding, the glue is protected from the effects of UV rays by peripheral silk-screen printing.
